The Purpose of This Bl;og

By and large, liberals are very decent, kind, and compassionate people who genuinely want what is best. This should be kept in mind as we explore the Law of Unintended Negative Consequences near invariably resulting from Leftist big-hearted solutions to societal problems.

Obamacare - Intro

Liberals deeply care for the sick and the feeble, particularly people who have been unable to get much-needed medical treatment and/or whose families have lost homes and life-savings and were burdened with crushing debt because they couldn't afford adequate health insurance. For this they shouldn't be criticized, but honored and applauded.

Obama has rightly said: "We spend $2 trillion on health care in this country every year, 50% more than other industrialized nations. And yet, we don’t have, necessarily, better outcomes." (See HERE as quoted HERE) "But it is indisputable that if you are poor in this country that is hazardous to your health, if you are black or brown, too, and poor, it can be downright deadly." (See HERE as quoted HERE) "Our health-care system is broken: expensive, inefficient, and poorly adapted to an economy no longer built on lifetime employment, a system that exposes Americans to insecurity and possible destitution." (Quoted HERE)

However, as with many Left-wing agendas, what was once a case of personal and private responsibility, is now considered a civil right and a mandate for the state. Once again, good ends are put in the hands of bad means, and well-intended and warm matters of the heart have been turned over to cold bureaucracies. Liberals have gradually taken the free-enterprise health care system in the U.S., that has for some time been considered the very best in the world, and are in the process of converting it into socialized medicine, the latest incarnation of which is Obamacare.

Steven Horwitz states: "Obamacare’s approach to fixing the very real problems of U.S. medical care is exactly backward. It undermines the market-driven parts that are working, and expands government control that is not." (See HERE)

Hans Bader indicates: "Under Obamacare, people pay more for inferior health plans [and] lose health insureance they liked." (See HERE)

Better still, there is this viral paradox from an anonymous author: "Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen. Now add this: many of those who refuse, or are unable to prove they are citizens will receive free insurance paid for by those who are forced to buy insurance because they are citizens."

Dr. Bellar sums it up this way: "We are going to be gifted with a health care plan that we are forced to purchase, and fined if we don’t, signed by a president who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that’s broke.” (see HERE)

In the posts to follow, I will examine the inaptly named Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) to see, among other things, how oppositely it has kept various commitments and promises, and the extent to which it has activated the law of unintended consequences. I will demonstrate that the Obama "cure" is worse than the "disease," and that the people most likely to be negatively affected by the Obamacare LUNCs are ironically those for whom Obamacare was intended and who can least afford it--i.e. the elderly, sickly, and poor.
